In his book Genes, Giants, Monsters, and Men, Joseph P. Farrell tells of the discovery made by Brian Sykes, a geneticist at the University of Oxford. Sykes discovered that all Europeans come from only seven surviving clan mothers, or The Seven Daughters of Eve. Farrell explains that the clan mothers come from one common mother called Mitochondrial Eve to whom geneticists have traced all human origins.

To acknowledge these strong mothers of humanity, I have created a vocabulary of pictographs and colors that reflects their power and strength. These simple symbols dominate the surfaces while they describe our ancestors. As petroglyphic memories are carved in stone, memories of the clan mothers are carved in our DNA.
